A great movie star and actress, Taylor for years thwarted efforts on the part of the media to discredit her as a serious actress and eventually persuaded them that she belonged with the best.
Yes, she did live a stormy and controversial private life what with her multitude of husbands and various health problems. But her loyalty to her friends and her generosity in fighting AIDS enabled her to overcome whatever negative image that others tried to impose on her. The star of great films such as "Giant", "Cleopatra", "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" will be terribly missed.
